Hemlock Manor by Iwan Ross

Iwan Ross

Iwan Ross grew up in a home marked by hardship, where books became his safest refuge. As a child, he often escaped to the small town library — a quiet sanctuary where stories offered the comfort, courage, and companionship the world around him often could not. Those early shadows shaped his imagination, giving rise to the vivid, uncanny worlds he writes today.

Diagnosed with Bipolar II later in life, Iwan discovered that the same inner world he once used to survive had become the source of his greatest strength: storytelling. Through the years he built a career in technology — from support technician to solutions engineer to technical writer — while never letting go of the one constant that carried him through every chapter of his journey: writing.

His debut novel, Elm Brook Manor, introduced readers to his signature style of supernatural suspense infused with emotion, mystery, and quiet resilience. Many of his stories draw from the unseen places of his life — the search for belonging, the ache of unanswered questions, and a belief that something greater watches over us, even in our darkest moments.

Today, Iwan is the Lead Technical Writer at his company and continues to craft stories filled with secrets, shadows, and humanity. He lives with his wife, Marna — his greatest inspiration and the heart of his world — and their spirited Jack Russell, Benji. Their love story is a miracle he plans to write about someday.

Iwan believes that the imagination is a shelter, a compass, and a lifeline. His message to aspiring writers is simple:

Every story begins with survival, and every survivor has a story worth telling.

A Devilishly Warm Christmas Tale Paul R. Stanton’s A Festive Verisimilitude

Paul R. Stanton’s A Festive Verisimilitude is one of those rare stories that manages to be mischievous, thoughtful, and oddly comforting all at once.

By inviting the Devil himself back to London during the Christmas season, Stanton creates a tale that feels playful on the surface, yet quietly observant beneath it. The city becomes more than a backdrop — it is alive with history, fog, hidden corners, and human contradiction, all rendered with affection and wit.

What struck me most was how gently...

A Quiet Descent into Psychological Terror Pavlov’s Bell is not a novel that

Pavlov’s Bell is not a novel that rushes at you with cheap scares. It circles. It watches. It waits. And then, slowly, it tightens its grip.

At its heart is Eve Wilson, a woman grieving the death of her husband and clinging to the fragile idea that love might be stronger than death itself. When signs begin to appear—messages, patterns, small impossibilities—her hope feels understandable, even tender. Who wouldn’t want to believe that the person they loved most is still reaching out?

But what...

Review - You Win When You Don't Play You Win When You Don’t Play is a

You Win When You Don’t Play is a quiet, compassionate book about stepping out of emotional struggle and into a more grounded way of living.

Sharmila Sengupta approaches themes like burnout, overthinking, boundaries, and self-worth with a steady, reassuring tone. The structure — ten short lessons — makes the book easy to move through, and each chapter blends reflection with practical insight in a way that feels accessible rather than overwhelming.

What stood out most to me was the emphasis on ...

Leaving an Indelible Mark

‘The Sandman’s Mark,’ a supernatural thriller by Iwan Ross, leaves an indelible mark on the reader. Like the sandman who stalks dreams, lurks in the shadows, and leaves a telltale stench of decay in his wake, the author’s formidable flair for writing breathes life on every page. His vivid descriptions, ethereal or visceral, allow the reader to probe the depths of Chloe’s soul, and see her parents, Gilbert and Sandra, as they really are. Little by little, everything falls into place. Each revelation, its own mindbender.

Shrouded in mystery and the supernatural—Chloe died three times—the surreal story, awash in pathos, is unpredictably shocking and tantalizing. I highly recommend ‘The Sandman’s Mark,' a well-crafted and imaginative story oozing life and death.

𝗔 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗪𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗪𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺

I just finished Iwan Ross's '𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘮𝘢𝘯'𝘴 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘬,' and I'm still reeling. The atmosphere he creates is palpable; I could practically feel the dust in my own throat, the chilling presence in Chloe's every panicked breath. The slow burn of dread, the way the lines between dream and reality warp, is masterfully executed. Ross doesn't just tell you a story; he pulls you down into the darkness with Chloe.

The supporting characters, Sandra and Gilbert, aren't just props; they're vital, complex cogs in this 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲. Their secrets and motivations keep you guessing, adding another layer of unsettling tension. This isn't your typical monster-in-the-closet tale. It's a 𝗽𝘀𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 descent, a gut-wrenching exploration of fear, family secrets, and the terrifying power of the unknown. Prepare to be haunted long after you turn the final page. Guilty pleasure revealed! I enjoy reading true stories immensely. So, when GROWING SLOWLY NOWHERE by Iwan Ross found its way under my watchful eyes, I jumped at the chance to read this riveting book. The description immediately hooked me... and so along I went and lost myself within the pages.

Lost is an apt word to describe my reading journey. The author's life unravelled like a train moving cross country and I was vested in his true story. So many ups and downs. The author's earnest tone was the icing on the cake. His urgency was felt in the way he strung his words together and depicted his life in great detail.

The author's relationship with his mother broke my heart. I could tell he was always trying to make his life better, trying valiantly to rise about whatever cards life dealt him. Thus far, he lived life with determination and gusto, inspiring the reader to keep moving forward when difficult waves threaten to disrupt their world.

Verdict: 5/5 Nothing dull here... a truly entertaining read. I can tell I won't soon forget this true
